LG TV black screen with sound can end up in a state where it produces sound but does not show a picture. All models and all series can be affected by this issue sooner or later.
If your LG TV has sound but no picture, it can be pretty frustrating, especially if you own a new model or if your TV has served you well for a long time.
Do not worry; there are easy steps to solve those issues on your own, and based on feedback from other people, those steps can fix more than 76% of LG TVs with sound but do not show a picture.
LG TV black screen with sound
You must follow simple steps if your LG TV shows any picture but still produces sound. First, unplug your TV from power and wait for 60 seconds. After that, press and hold the power button for additional 30 seconds. After those two steps, plug your TV back into power, and it should work again.
1. Unplug a Television From the Wall Socket
Even if you have already tried to unplug your TV, ensure you follow the exact procedure. Without proper steps, this easiest step does not have to work, and your LG TV won’t fix properly.
Make sure you identified the correct cable which is coming from your TV. With TV, many other devices are plugged into the same socket or power cord, and you need to make sure you are disconnecting the correct cable.
Once TV is disconnected, wait at least 60 seconds. In the meantime, you can search for the power button. Once 60 seconds is up, you can press and hold the power button for additional 30 seconds.
This procedure will ensure that all residual energy in your TV is gone and all parts of the TV are properly turned off.
Once you have completed both steps, you can plug your TV back into the socket, and it should work again!
If you belong to a small group of people for which this procedure did not resolve the issue altogether, then check the other fixes below.
2. Check for Broken Cables and Loose Connections
If changing settings on your LG TV does not help, check for issues outside of the TV as well.
Wrong cables or loose connections can also cause screen flickering.
Right now most used data signal cable is HDMI.
Check back of your TV and look for connectors named HDMI Input (or just HDMI IN).
If you have more than one cable plugged into the HDMI IN connector, check the right one.
The picture should disappear once you disconnect the right cable.
The easiest thing to do here is to replace your HDMI cable with another one. Do that first if you have an additional HDMI cable lying around.
If you have just one HDMI cable in your house, make sure you follow those steps:
- Check visually if the cable is in good shape
- Unplug and plug in both sides of the cable
3. Check if Your TV Backlight Failed
You would not believe how often it happens that the backlight stops working on modern TVs.
Luckily it can be easily checked if your TV is affected by this common issue.
You will need the flashlight for this. The stronger flashlight, the better.
Power ON your TV and look at your screen with a flashlight ON. Go as close to your TV screen as possible.
If your backlight is broken, you should see a very dim picture in a place where you shine with your flashlight.
In this case, you need to replace the backlight to fix your TV. Usually, you can find hardware repair stores in your area.
4. TV Electronics Gone Bad
The last option if all others fail is that your electronics have just gone bad.
This can happen with age, but it can also result from the light storm in your area.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to determine this without opening your TV. It is not recommended to do that if you do not have an electrical background and you are not a certified specialist.
If you need to replace electronics on your TV, you can find hardware repair stores in your area.
5. Use Your Warranty For New LG TVs
If you bought your TV recently (less than one year), you have a warranty covered by LG. You can check details about the warranty directly on the LG website.
With an active warranty, hardware issues like broken electronics should be covered by the manufacturer. Contact LG support for more details.
6. Contact LG TV Support
In rare cases when you cannot solve sound issues by following the tips above, you can always contact LG support.
In most cases, they can connect directly to your TV and help you remotely.
LG Premium Support support line is available 8 AM – 9 PM (EST) and 7 days a week for US customers.
To contact LG support, you need to call 1-800-243-0000 or 1-850-999-4934.
Once you are on the line with support, they will ask you for a remote management PIN so that they can reach your TV.
You can prepare this PIN before the call to speed things up.

To Sum Up…
In most cases, LG1 TV, which has sound but shows no picture, can be easily fixed. Just perform a power reset and check if all cables are in good shape. Those simple steps will solve it in most cases.
If your TV is older, it can be a more severe issue with electronics.
You can try to fix your TV at home, but it is not recommended if you are not experienced with similar work from the past.
Overall it is a good idea to consider if new TV is not the best solution in your case. Especially with older models, you can gain excellent value with new TV without spending much more than the cost of repair of your old device.
